Tips From A Superhero #2

Do NOT smile like this for your senior photo:

or look scared of the teacher:

or swim in your tuxedo:

or cross your legs (if you're a guy):

or examine your hand while combing your whiskers:

and last of all:

if you're gonna do the whole "rub-a-dub-dub, three men in a tub thing," have THREE men in the tub, and not TWO!

people these days... *sigh*

The Captive

The soft glow of lights moving about, some slowly, some darting back and forth. I stand on the pathway watching the bright little lights floating around in the darkness, six of them. They remind me of fireflies floating around on a summer night. Above me, I hear the buzz of the electric wires; in the distance, I hear the soft "thud-thud" of cars crossing the railroad tracks; around me, I hear the crickets chirping. All of a sudden, one of the lights falters and stops. Slowly, the other lights pause their wandering, and start floating toward the "stopped light" forming a circle around the captive. I am appointed the "guard of the path" and start walking towards the circle of lights. SNAP! A small rock flies from the slingshot. The sharp tap of a cane hitting a rock, the thud of a "club" hitting the ground, the stomp stomp, and skidding sound of clumsy human feet thumping after the captive. I hear hushed whispers of disappointment as they move on. Once again, all is silent. I continue down the path, following the lights ahead of me, but there's something missing! I only see five lights instead of six. I look behind me and notice the dark shadow of a bush, and then I notice a soft glow coming from behind it. Soon, the small light reappears and starts toward the others, once again reunited.

I finally "catch up" with the lights, now grouped together, and I can see the faces of the young men. Their headlamps are shining on each-other's faces, so everyone is visible in the blackness. Whispering, they decide to try something new. Once again, I am appointed to "watch" the pathway and not let the rabbit cross to the other side, and disappear into the bushes. I start to walk along the pathway as the boys separate from eachother. Soon, a rabbit is spotted. The new plan involvs surrounding the mammal, but instead of whacking and shooting it wildly, Daniel takes charge. We all are instructed to stand still with our weapons, (in-case the hare decides to dart) as Michael slowly steps closer and closer. When he is about four feet away from the captive, he loads his slingshot and shoots. The rabbit jumps into the air and darts! Once again, I hear the tap of the cane on a rock, the thud of clubs hitting the ground, the whiz of a knife flying through the air, then the sound of it hitting the ground, and disappointed whispers. I feel as if I can hear the rabbit mocking their efforts.

The night is over as we pick the burrs out of our socks, shoes, and pant legs... Maybe next time... Maybe next time we can capture one.

ps. sorry mom, there won't be meat for supper tonight

Tips From A Superhero #1

Make a list of every characteristic you would want in a best friend and/or spouse... then be that person.

For example:
A superhero wife would have to be:
-cheerful
-funny
-easygoing
-intellectual
-hardworking
-super
So the superhero should strive to be: cheerful, funny, easygoing, intellectual, hardworking, and super.

ps. do not try to be funny if you are not a funny kind of person

My Bi-Monthly Opinion: Postage Stamps

Rating: 5

Postage stamps are "small, usually adhesive, labels issued by the government and sold in various denominations to be fixed to items of mail as evidence of payment of postage."

July 1, 1885 marked the lowest price of the postage stamp for letters at 2 cents each. As of January 22, 2012, the postage stamp costs 45 cents. Although these stamps only cost 45 cents, it takes a million of them to ship anything bigger than a normal small letter... such as a:

As for my opinion, I do not like postage stamps because they are so expensive, and the prices on them are rising, however, they are fun and easy to use:

they come in lots of different colors and designs...

and a clever way of telling if someone payed for their package/letter or not...

and plus, if no one used postage stamps for "snail mail" anymore, it wouldn't be any fun...

Superhero Quotes (1)

Whatever comes our way, whatever battle we have raging inside us, we always have a choice. My friend Harry taught me that. He chose to be the best of himself. It’s the choices that make us who we are, and we can always choose to do what’s right.

May The Fourth Be With You

May 4 is a special day for Star Wars fans... Perhaps the most common phrase known in "Star Wars language" is: "May the force be with you", a phrase often stated as a "farewell" or "good luck" to a departing Jedi knight. Star Wars fans used this popular phrase and twisted it to say: "May the fourth  be with you", thus dubbing May fourth as "Star Wars Day."

In England, Margret Thatcher, the first woman prime minister, was elected on May 4, 1979, and her political party put out an advertisement that stated: "May the fourth be with you", thus increasing the popularity of the Star Wars day trend.

Ironically, the Los Angles City Counsel declared May 25th as Star Wars Day, due to the release of the fourth episode of Star Wars. But any real Star Wars fan would celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4th.

Some ways to celebrate Star Wars Day are:

1. Wave your hand before entering an automatic door at a store, pretending to have the force of Darth Vader

2. Start a protest in front of the theater because "The Avengers" stole the limelight of Star Wars Day

3. Watch all of the Star Wars movies from start to finish

4. Go to a restaurant, and if they don't have want you want to eat, react accordingly (ex. pretend to have Vader's talent of choking people at a distance)

5. Make corny Star Wars jokes all day... For example:

1) Ever seen a Jedi commit suicide? They hold a lightsaber up to their temple and scream "Back off! Don't Force me to make any rash decisions!! I'll do it!!!"

2) Darth Vader approaches Luke and says, "Luke, I know what you got for Christmas." Luke asks, "How?" And Vader replies, "I sensed your presents."

3) You know you're a redneck Jedi When:

-You've heard the phrase, "May the force be with y'all."

-You have ever used a light saber to light the barbecue grill

-You used a light saber to cut your wedding cake

-Your father's name is Garth Vader

-A wookie has told you you need to shave

-You find no grammatical error in the way Yoda talks

-You think having bad B.O. is a special force

-The doors of your X wing are welded shut and you have to get in through the windows

-You feel like duct tape is like the force. It has a dark side, a light side, and holds the world together.
